What you Uneed to know about Birkenstocks:
The Legendary Birkenstock Footbed
Birkenstock uses the natural shape of the foot to create the Original Birkenstock Footbed. When you walk in anything with a Birkenstock footbed, your foot is supported naturally as if you were walking on soft yielding sand.
- Toe Room - The wide toe box gives toes room to bend and flex and enables the foot to stay in proper alignment. This promotes better balance, leverage and weight distribution.
- Neutral Heel - This feature focuses the weight of the body on the heel. The natural height of our heel helps keep the body in proper alignment.
- Raised Toe Bar - Just like walking barefoot, it encourages the natural gripping motion of your feet and exercises your legs.
- Arch Support - The natural shape of the footbed includes a pronounced arch area to give proper support, improved balance, and encourage better posture and circulation.
- Deep Heel Cup - This feature helps focus the weight of your body on the heel. The heel cup stabilizes the foot and helps absorb the shock of walking.
- Sole - It's flexible, durable, lightweight, and shock absorbing.
- Cork Footbed - The footbed is made of a cork/latex combination, which like walking on a natural sandy beach yields to support the entire foot.
- Jute - Two layers: The top layer wicks away moisture; the bottom layer adds strength and makes resoling easier.
- Footbed Liner - Out soft liners absorb moisture and add comfort.

Birkenstock Care and Repair Tips
Avoid Extreme Heat
Both the cork footbeds and the EVA soles can be damaged by exposure to concentrated heat. Do not keep your Birkenstocks closed in a car on warm days, and keep them away from campfires, fireplaces, and radiators. If your Birkenstocks become wet allow them to air dry slowly away from direct heat.
Apply Cork Sealant
Many Birkenstock sandals and clogs come with exposed cork footbeds. The exposed cork comes with a light coating of sealant, when the cork starts loosing its shiny look it is drying out. This may cause the cork to crack or chip. When the cork loses its shine apply a thin layer of Birkenstock Cork Life to help prolong your Birkenstock's life.
Renew and Replace Worn Sole
When the EVA soles have been worn down to within 1/4" of the cork footbed it's time for heel or toe taps. If the sole is worn down more than this replace the soles. For more information on Birkenstock repair call or e-mail us.
Care for Footprints Shoes
The inner cork footbed is replaceable. When the soles start to get worn down we have a Birkenstock authorized repair service we recommend, so call or e-mail us. To care for the uppers see "Clean and Protect Uppers" below.
Care for Birki's and Birki Clogs
When the polyurethane sole gets dirty, just hose it off. If you wear them in salt water hose them off with fresh water to avoid salt corrosion.
Clean and Protect Uppers
Birkenstock carries a full line of shoe care products for every type of shoe.
Before you start breaking in your shoes you should use Birkenstock Leather Saver to protect your leather, suede, and nubuck from water, stains, and dirt. It also protects natural fabrics (linen, wool, etc.) and synthetic materials (Birko-Flor, Birkibuc, etc.)
Birkenstock makes a leather cleaner to use on scuffed leather, Birko-Flor, and Birkibuc.
To prolong the life of your footbed use Birkenstock Footbed Cleaner.
