To repair or not to repair, that is the question.

Birkenstock footwear is manufactured with high quality materials, by expert shoemakers. But, even the best shoes wear out. I often hear questions about whether it is worth repairing a favorite pair of Birkenstock sandals, versus investing in a new pair. Here are a few common concerns…

The footbed is black and smelly… yech!
Before you look into replacing the footbed liner, get some footbed cleaner. I recommend Paxton’s Sandal Saver (details under Shoe Care Products) for easy and dramatic cleaning of that old footbed.

The sole is worn down, but the cork is in pretty good shape
This is the time to get your sandals resoled. It will cost you about $40.00, but you should be able to get lots more wear out of the sandals. Be sure Birkenstock materials are used in the resole. If you do not have access to a local authorized Birkenstock shoe repair shop, give us a call at (1-800-836-0616) and we can have them repaired for you.

The sole is worn down, the cork is crumbling and/or the footbed is cracked
Although it is possible to fix all these problems – and completely refurbish your sandal – the cost should make you think about if it makes more sense to get a new pair. It’s also important to note that, once the uppers are removed, in order to repair or replace the footbed, they will never feel exactly the same to you. It will cost you about $70.00 to rebuild sandals with Birkenstock materials (including a new footbed and a new sole). We sell many of our Birkenstock sandals for under $100.

Decisions, decisions… feel free to give us a call at (1-800-836-0616) if you need any further information!

Birkenstock footwear supports you on the job. Medical and culinary professionals know that Professional Birkenstock footwear offers long-term comfort in quality crafted design.

Just last week, I visited the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. The staff and students there swear by their Birkenstocks. Everywhere I looked, I saw the Professional Clog by Birki’s and the London shoe by classic Birkenstock (I always notice people’s shoes first!). These two shoes are great options for the busy professional, each featuring a closed heel for security.

And, next time you are in a hospital… check out the footwear on those nurses and doctors! Birkenstocks support your medical professionals in the operating room (polyurethane clogs that are easily cleaned) and on the patient floors (nurses often prefer one of the Alpro clogs with a back strap).

Our styles designed for Professionals have expanded. The Alpro line by Birkenstock added a great closed-back clog, the A603. This polyurethane clog is available with or without a steel toe. Chefs and their heavy pots love that steel toe. The A603 includes a contoured cork/latex footbed for optimal comfort. Alpro also offers the G500, a great alternative to the London, only with greater flexibility, slip resistance and polyurethane coated leather.

Many of the Professional styles are labeled under the Birki’s brand. Birki clogs are designed to deliver traction in wet and oily conditions. The contoured footbeds cushion every step and distribute weight evenly to help alleviate fatigue.

Uneeda Birkenstock will return to the Culinary Institute regularly with new products for the professionals there. Do you require Professional Birkenstock footwear at your workplace? If you would like to receive our specialized brochure for culinary professionals, or if you would like us to contact your employer about our products, please contact me at info@uneedabirkenstock.com.

Best wishes,

Have you noticed that the prices of many of our styles have been reduced?

Retail prices for footwear manufactured by Birkenstock brands (including Birkenstock, Tatami, Newalk, Footprints, Papillio, Birki’s and Alpro) have fluctuated over the past few years. Factors impacting pricing are many. The relative cost of the Euro to the dollar is certainly a factor, as are overhead costs of shipping, warehousing and distribution. When all these factors line up just right… we are pleased to be able to lower our prices!

Overall, Birkenstocks offer exceptional value.

In fact, you might even note…
A new pair of Oz3 waterproof sandals from Newalk… $21.95
A pair of Birki’s Professional Clogs for work… on special this month for $79.50
A popular Morgan sandal from Tatami… $139.95
Your comfort… PRICELESS!!

At Uneeda Birkenstock, we will work with you to prolong the life of your Birkenstocks. Our selection of shoe care products offers you the tools you need to maintain your footwear. For styles that are built with footbeds that can be replaced, we carry these replacement footbeds on our website. And, if you want to resole or reline one of your favorite pairs, just give us a call and we can do the repair work for you… with Birkenstock materials.

I hope you will contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing Uneeda Birkenstock!

March Newsletter
I just love when we get new stock in… especially the colorful spring and summer sandals, clogs and shoes.

I am most exited about the new Footprints Til Schweiger collection, recognized by its own logo, a large “S”. .

Til Schweiger is an actor, director and producer of German and U.S. films. His impressive creative energies now include shoe design for Birkenstock’s Footprints brand. Schweiger focuses on “movement”, and the critical role of footwear in allowing people to move through life. And so, Schweiger sketched designs for sporty sneakers and clogs, for men and women. .

These shoes have a great look, in leather and mesh, and plenty of comfort features. The rubber sole is durable and stable for an active lifestyle. The full cork Footprints footbed includes a cushioned heel seat, for better shock absorbency and instant comfort. (Look for the Til Schweiger collection in the “shoes” category on the left margin.) .

As you might guess, I already have my new pair of Til Schweiger shoes. I am impressed with their comfort… and their style. (mine are bright green and orange… you can see me coming for miles!!) I hope you will be the first on your block… more likely in your city… to move through life in shoes designed by Schweiger. .

Happy Spring! .

February Newsletter
In the January newsletter, I wrote about the business side of Birkenstock in 2006. However, there is another side… the aspect that makes me passionate about my work… and that is the tremendous innovation in much of the new product now available through Birkenstock brands.

The best example is the Newalk brand. Newalk improves on some of the Birkenstock styles familiar to U.S. consumers, and moves into the active footwear market with creativity, value and quality. The Hudson clog, by Newalk, takes the bestselling classic Boston clogs and adds a cushioned heel seat. In doing so, consumers will find the clogs more comfortable from the first day… and will increase their “mileage” on the outer sole.

Creative design shines through in Newalk’s OZ 3, the new waterproof thong sandal for men and women. (The name “OZ 3” comes from the extremely light weight of the sandal, only 3 ounces.) The OZ 3 has a contoured footbed for comfort, a sleek design, and a variety of bold colors. Priced at only $21.95 per pair, consumers can collect several colors.

For Uneeda Birkenstock, the OZ 3 will replace the Caribbean style (from Birki’s).For the classic Birkenstock brand, 2006 brings an expansion of the soft footbed option. Arizona, Milano and Boston styles will be available in leather and suede options in the very popular soft footbed. Consumers often find that by adding the layer of cushioning to the cork footbed, the soft version makes breaking in a new pair of Birkenstocks much easier… not that much different from buying pre-washed jeans!

Today, I previewed new Tatami shoes and boots for next fall. (Amazing women’s loafers! Luxurious boots!) I am excited by all the Birkenstock brands, and I hope you will check back with us often to see what’s new…

Thank you for choosing Uneeda Birkenstock!

January Newsletter
With the New Year, we welcome many changes at Uneeda Birkenstock. We are proud of our growth in business... and in your confidence in us as YOUR Birkenstock store.

The primary focus behind the changes we see is a transition in the importing and distribution of Birkenstock product in the USA. The Birkenstock company in Germany is actually comprised of many brands. In the past, the brands imported to the USA were nearly all distributed through one company. Beginning in 2006, these Birkenstock brands will be split among many distributors.

The primary impact on you, the consumer, will be that the array of Birkenstock product you find will be more identified by their particular brand... like Tatami, Newalk, Birki, Papillio, Footprints, and Alpro. "Birkenstock" is also one of the brands. The Birkenstock brand features classic footwear like the Arizona and Boston styles. All these brands are manufactured and licensed by the overall Birkenstock company.

The styles we will be able to offer you will be quite different in the future... with lots of exciting new sandals, shoes, and clogs added to our mix of your favorites! Our goal is to offer you the best collection of comfort and style from all the Birkenstock brands.

So, be sure to bookmark our site.. and visit often!

Best wishes to you and your family for a Happy and Healthy New Year.
